The Single Arm Kettlebell Swing

This particular lift is a tremendous lift that you can perform with the ancient kettlebell to truly help you to get your body into fighting shape. As a fighter, like any athlete, you must be able to move quickly and to be strong and powerful at the same time if you are to be competitive. The single arm kettlebell swing is a great lift to help you to achieve just that quality in your strength and conditioning workouts. The unique thing about kettlebell training is that it is movement based in nature rather than being body part specific. This particular style of training and exercise is tremendous in helping you to develop superior core power, hip strength, and the shoulder resiliency to dish out and take punishment all day long! This lift is basically performed by you swinging the kettlebell back and forth with one arm from between your legs up to chest level. This is done by you engaging in a technique in kettlebell training that is known as the hip snap. The hip snap action is done by you having to forcefully and constantly flex and extend at both your hips and knees in order to build up the momentum to swing the kettlebell. As you swing the bell you should have a firm hook on the bell with your hand by allowing the handle to firmly set into the palm of your hand rather than gripping the bell with your fingers. Otherwise your grip will rapidly fatigue with the lift. As you swing the bell back and forth make sure to allow your arm to naturally rotate from a "palms down" position at the top of the swing to a "thumbs down" position at the bottom of the swing.
