Punch Bag Training That Increases Punch Strength

Punch bag training is a legendary technique to improve punch strength and speed. In order to improve the punch strength, start off with hitting a punch bag heavier than you normally do. The punch bag should weigh at least 100 pounds. A heavier bag forces you to increase the punch strength. Progress to a heavier bag once you are comfortable with the present bag.
Staying balanced is the key to improve the strength of your punch. Be relaxed and maintain a proper posture while delivering the punches. Never over extend your body to punch at the bag.
Maintain a good and light foot work. Remaining stationery in one position will not help in improving the punch strength. You need to keep moving around the punch bag and keep attacking it from different angles with variable forces to increase the punch strength.
It is easier said than done when you are asked not to tense your muscles and there is no way to teach your muscles to be tensed or relaxed. This is an involuntary reaction which is developed through practice. To have the right strength in your punches it is important to keep the muscles relaxed before the actual delivery of the blow.
Laws of physics state that the power or strength of an object is also determined by its speed. If you increase the speed of delivery, the strength of each punch increases automatically. To increase speed, work outs should be designed in shorter intervals with quick successive blows on the punch bag. Small increments in speed can increase the punch strength considerably.
Another way to improve the punch strength is to have short high speed drills at the punch bag. You will use no jabs but just the hooks, uppercuts and the crosses. Each drill should last for about a minute or little more but focus should be just on power of the punch. Different combinations of hooks, uppercuts and crosses can be used but work solely on power punching at the bag.
Start with ten rounds of one minute drills. Each round should be aimed at delivering the maximum effort. Combinations of foot work, head movement and punching can be used. Power should be released to the punches at full throttle during the attack on the punch bag. Blows should be delivered in quick succession and thrown with higher speed and strength.
Punch strength improves with constant practice at the punch bag. It takes lot of hard work and self discipline to become an achiever.
