You must have seen fight gloves during boxing competitions where they are used to protect the hands from an injury. These gloves have a thin amount of padding and are not more than 4 oz in weight, and the another reason for the gloves is to decrease facial injuries during a fight. A study indicated the number of deaths in the traditional form of bare knuckle boxing was very high as compared to the new boxing style, in which these gloves are worn by the competitors and hence, these gloves need to be adopted in traditional boxing as well.

There are many types of gloves such as MMA gloves, wrist wraps, and the fight glove that is used for passing on strong punches to the opponent in boxing and also for preventing injuries. You can find many varieties of these gloves which are categorized as per the mass and the style. The hand wraps and speed gloves are two different types of these gloves, made either of leather or light leather vinyl, in which the wraps are used to protect against injuries and the speed gloves protect against the scratches.

A common variety are the bag gloves which can be identified by the heavy cushions and are recommended for practice sessions, when the new trainee has to strike the boxing bag continuously to get the punch right. Bag gloves give great wrist support and help you to prevent injuries during training while sparring gloves are the variety designed in a way to protect against real fights, although it can be used for trainings too. There are two types of sparring gloves - one designed with individual finger openings - it is a traditional design, and the other design has one large padded area and finger loops.

Professional fight gloves have a thin padding and it's weight is not more than 10 ounces, however other types of gloves can weight more than 16 ounces. Usually, before the contest, the gloves are laced and then sealed on the hands of the athlete to avoid tampering. Recently, the new designs of these gloves have been approved in UK which weight more than 12 ounce wherein leather is used for the design.

A new mesh palm technology is also applied for designing gloves which is prepared with Velcro and has leather stitching. One of the famous broken knuckle kempo gloves is used for wrist support in sports, such as grappling maneuvers (clinch fighting) and wrestling. There are other styles offered in fight gloves, such as the palm gloves, over sized bag gloves and fusion gloves.
