At the time of the writing of this article, it had been about 2 weeks since Randy "The Natural" Couture beat hall of famer and Pride 2000 Grand Prix champion, Mark Coleman. At 46 years old, Couture handled his Hall of Fame counterpart easy, finishing the fight in the second by way of TKO. In recognition of "The Natural"'s accomplishments that defy logic, here are 15 things about Randy Couture that you might not know:
.) His first professional opponent was Tony Halme in UFC 13 (win by submission)
.) His first professional loss was to Enson Inoue in Vale Tudo Japan by armbar in 1998
.) He has 3 wins by submission and 7 by KO
.) Born Randy Duane Couture June 22, 1963
.) Fought in a record 15 UFC title fights
.) Former Olympic Wrestling alternate
.) Won the state wrestling championship at Lynwood High School
.) Served in the U.S. Army from 1982-1988
.) Was stripped of the UFC Heavyweight belt after signing with Vale Tudo Japan in 1998
.) In 1992 Couture finished second to Mark Kerr in the Div I wrestling championships
.) Has currently starred in 7 movies
.) First fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes, later done by B.J. Penn
.) Was the fourth fighter inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame
.) Fight of the Night at UFC 74 and UFC 102
.) Has never lost 3 fights in a row
Let's hope we get to see "Captain America" for a least one more shot at the title. It's good for the sport, and it's good for the fans. Either way, his legacy is cemented in history along with many, many highlight reel clips.
